New Pharmacy Software Helps Drug Retailers Implement Meth LawsRALEIGH, NC, September 28 /PRNewswire/ -- NC Gov. Mike Easley signed a bill on Tuesday that requires all buyers of pseudoephedrine, a common decongestant used to make methamphetamine, to show identification and sign a log sheet that tracks purchases. Raleigh-based pharmacy software maker LobbyGuard Solutions has produced technology to help drug retailers implement these requirements. The bill's measures are meant to limit the amount of pseudoephedrine people can buy, to prevent meth makers from stockpiling the pills. In addition to checking IDs and having buyers sign a log sheet, retailers will be required to maintain records of these sales for at least two years - all in an effort to track suspicious activity. A major problem with the approach is the difficulty comparing activity from stacks of paper records, especially when trying to track an individuals purchase activity across several pharmacies. LobbyGuard Solutions has followed the meth epidemic closely, and has developed technology to help the drug retailers. Using their software in a pharmacy, individuals who wish to purchase restricted drugs would be required to sign in using a simple touchscreen interface. The system then prints a ticket to present to the pharmacy counter, saving time for both the retailer and the consumer. Unlike paper logbooks, software can keep a complete record of the purchase in a centralized location, explains President Kevin Allen. This central recording feature will make it possible to quickly and easily spot individuals who are making frequent purchases, or who are purchasing from multiple pharmacies. A similar version of LobbyGuard is currently in use in school systems across the nation to track visitors and prevent sex offenders from gaining access to school grounds. Allen asserts that the success of LobbyGuards technology in schools translates into the arena of controlled pharmaceuticals. The pharmacy software enables retailers to easily comply with the bill, saves time for consumers and retailers, and helps combat the growing meth problem. Related searches: logbook software,
