New High-Tech School Safety and Security System at Jenks School District

JENKS, OK, October 10 -- Visitors to Jenks High School will soon be greeted by a new high-tech school safety tool called LobbyGuard. In an effort to strengthen school security, LobbyGuards visitor management kiosk can instantly check all campus visitors against their sex offender registry and notify appropriate school and district personnel if a match is made.

One of the most challenging areas for most of the nations schools is the monitoring of who is coming into our childrens buildings, says Roger Wright, Executive Administrator, School Safety and Emergency Preparedness for the Jenks District.

LobbyGuard currently operates in hundreds of public and private schools and school administrative facilities across the United States. The demand for visitor background checks came from school systems themselves, even before states started passing the Jessica Lunsford Act. The Act, commonly known as Jessicas Law, requires schools in those states to screen campus visitors, volunteers and vendors against criminal databases.

Although Oklahoma does not currently require background checks, Wright believes this security measure should not be overlooked. The LobbyGuard kiosk will improve the Jenks School Districts ability to more accurately ensure that an individual coming into a school is not a registered sex offender, does not have outstanding warrants for his/her arrest, and does have custody rights to the specific student he/she would like to pick-up.

LobbyGuard is the most comprehensive way for schools to keep sexual predators off their grounds, addressing school security needs in three major areas: requiring a drivers license to sign in, running an instant background check on the visitor, and matching the visitor to any student he or she is allowed to pick up.

LobbyGuard will be part of existing Jenks security measures that include physical building design, limited access points, a Campus Police Department and interior/exterior video surveillance.

Most importantly, Wright added, the LobbyGuard kiosk will be one more deterrent to keep the bad guys out of our childrens schools.
